The Real Reason Why Guys Play Guitar
I came across a fun article today. It pretty much discusses the main reason why teenage boys start playing guitar. If they tell you otherwise, they are probably lying. Here is a link to the article,Girls want guys with guitars!

Chromatic Guitar Exercises AKA "The Spider!"
Often I compare playing a song on the guitar like playing a game in sports. To play a sport, one must perform cross training exercise to stay in optimal shape for the game. This is the same for playing guitar. Basic chromatic exercises are a great way for beginners to build stretch and for more experienced players to warm up.
The diagram below features 24 different patterns that can be performed. Remember keep your fingers close and pretend your hand is like a spider crawling up and down the fretboard. I recommend printing out a copy of the diagram and keeping it your guitar case. For the more modern players download to your smart phone or tablet PC. Honestly, I do all three. Here is a link to the video.
Have fun,
Brett

Star Wars Theme for Guitar
Two things I can count on; the sun will come up in the morning and every student I have will want to learn this song. Here is my intermediate arrangement of the main theme to Star Wars. This piece is by the great John Williams. I didn't write it and hopefully nobody sue me :-)

My favorite guitar website
Check out www.premierguitar.com. It is hands down the best guitar website out there. The reviews are fair and unbiased. The "Rig Rundown" feature is amazing. It is really cool to check out what pros really use as opposed to the gear they are just paid to endorse.
The site also has a ton of cool contests. I have yet to win any but maybe one day...
Anyway check out http://www.premierguitar.com/ and look around.

Romanza, Easy Guitar Arrangment
Here is an easy arrangement of the classical guitar standard,"Romanza." Many of my beginning students enjoy playing this song. It is great for confidence to play something that sounds advanced but is easy to approach for beginners.
Remember the song is in 3/4 and is grouped into three bar "mini progressions."
This arrangement is to be played with the pick. The picking pattern is up, up, down throughout the entire piece. The only part they might be an issue for some players is the middle section that requires barring the 5 fret. However the open string sections should be rather easy to pick up. So good luck and enjoy.
